Do you know what your child is posting on Myspace or Facebook?

In the past week Myspace.com banned 29,000 sex offenders from using Myspace. I applaud their action but realize that it wouldn’t take much for them to cook up some phony identity, log back on and get back to their old habits. Below are several points to discuss with your teen in regards to posting online via Myspace, Facebook, or other social networking sites:
- Don’t share your full name with anyone online. Use only your first name or nickname only.
- Don’t share the town you live in, the school you attend, address, or phone number. No need to help
- Keep in mind that what you post online (pictures or text) has the potential to be around as long as you are and could effect future jobs, relationships, or perceptions.
- If possible, mark your profile “Private” so that you know who is viewing your information.
- Let your mom or dad know if someone posts something that is inappropriate or lewd on your profile.
