Protect your child while surfing the web
If you are like me, you worry about your child using the internet. You may have a list of sites that you are comfortable with your child surfing. But what happens when they accidentally click the wrong link or type in the wrong thing, suddenly their innocence can be forever lost.
Two things I use in my household to protect my young one while surfing the web are Firefox (a web browser) and an add-on (a program that works within Firefox) called Glubble. Keep in mind is that if you are currently an Internet Explorer user, you will need to switch to Mozilla’s Firefox browser in order to use Glubble.
Glubble differs from most filters for children because it operates on a list of sites that your child can visit. Glubble allows for the best of both worlds… I can put together a list of sites that I am comfortable with my child visiting and from that list my child can choose which site they would like to visit.
Glubble allows for searches through two major search engines Google and Yahoo. However they do clean up the result prior to the results being shown on your screen base upon what sites are listed within Glubble.
As for usability, the interface is easily navigated even though my child is learning to read. Sites that are listed within Glubble have a picture associated with them, allowing non-readers the ability to make a selection based on sight. Finally, it comes preloaded with a bunch of kid oriented sites like Disney Playhouse, Nick Jr., and many other sites that you can remove. If there is a site that your child likes to visit and it’s not listed, it’s simple to add. For my family, Glubble is a great way to protect my child.
