After a busy day of work, prepping and eating supper, it’s nice to sit down with the family and watch a movie. This is a scenario that happens in our house on occasion. The question that usually comes up is “What movie are we going to watch?” For the most part, we’ve seen most of the movies that we are familiar with. Both my wife and I are concerned about what our children watch. We want to make sure their minds are filled with the values we agree with. So how do we determine which movies are okay and not okay for our family to watch? Below are a few websites that we use to review movies before letting the whole family watch it.
PluggedInOnline.com – Not only does this site contain reviews for movies, it also holds reviews for DVD/videos, music, and television shows. PluggedInOnline.com states it’s goal “is to help equip parents, youth leaders, ministers and teens with the essential tools that will enable them to understand, navigate and impact the culture in which they live,” specifically dealing with movies, music, and television shows. You will find categories such as Positive Elements, Spiritual Content, Sexual Content, Violent Content, Crude or Profane Language, Drug and Alcohol Content, and more within PluggedInOnline.com’s movie reviews. PluggedInOnline.com’s parent company is James Dobson’s Focus on the Family.
Kids-In-Mind.com – This site deals strictly with movies. Kids-In-Mind.com “assign(s) each film three distinct, category-specific ratings: one for SEX & NUDITY, one for VIOLENCE & GORE and one for PROFANITY. Each rating is on a scale of zero to ten, depending on quantity (more F-words, for instance, will mean a higher Profanity rating, and so on) as well as context (especially when it comes to the categories of sex, nudity, violence and gore, since they are not as easily quantifiable as profanity).” Kids-In-Mind.com is apart of Critics Inc.
