How do you say “I love you” to your child without even trying? Below is a list of ten things you can do that tells your child you love them.

1. Say “I Love You!”
This is probably the easiest way to tell your child that you love them. However, due to the fact that it’s just words, saying “I Love You” could be empty if not followed by actions. The age old expression holds true in this sense as “Actions speak louder than words.”
2. Play a game with her/him
Kids love games, whether they are board games, video games or sports games. Each child has his or her favorite games they like to play. When you take a moment to play a game with them, it makes their world dandy.
3. Grab a dish of ice cream with just them and talk about whatever.
Well maybe it doesn’t have to be ice cream… but take them out to a restraunt and share some sort of food together. I have many fond memories with my dad sitting in a bakery enjoying a scrumptious chocolate donut. I honestly don’t remember what we talked about, but I enjoyed and looked forward to those times with my dad.
4. Visit a place of their choosing
Find out where your child would like to go and go. It means a great deal when you ask their opinion and then execute based on it.
5. Horseplay with them
Horseplay is another word for wrestling, goofing-around, acting silly, etc. Currently, this is one of my kids’ favorite things to do. I lay on the floor while they run from the other end of the house and tackle me. For them, this brings countless hours of smiles and laughter.
6. Create a craft or construct something with her/him
I can remember spending hours upon hours in my dad’s workshop as he worked on projects. During these times, I would begin to create new inventions to tackle my imaginary world. Before long, my dad would be helping me build those crazy inventions.
7. Show love and respect to your spouse
You may be asking, “How in the world does this show love to my child?” As children grow up into adults, they mimic what they have seen around them. If you treat your spouse with love and respect, they will grow into adults who can show their spouse love and respect. This will create a healthier life and the child will have less baggage for them to work through as they become adults.
8. Know who your child interacts with, kids and adults alike.
Know your child’s friends. Know the adults that your child interacts with. Whether you realize it or not, you child is being influenced by them. Do you approve of the influences that they bring? If your child is old enough, this can be a discussion point between the two of you and what influences can do to ones life.
9. Read with them
Younger children love things that are imaginary. When you pick up a book, you’re stepping into that imaginary world with your child. Not only is reading a book spending quality time with your child, it’s showing the value that you place on learning and being able to read.
10. Make them laugh
Laughter calms the heart and helps children see that life isn’t always serious. Take a moment and share a joke with them that they would enjoy.
